Philippines Building Supplies

A survey of suppliers Philippines building supplies by the Builders & Contractors found that construction materials are adequate and prices are stable despite hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne, devastating storms that swept through the Southeast last fall.

"We had much more of a severe impact after Hurricane Andrew back in 1992, and we had expected to see more of a problem than we have," says an economist with the NAHB.

Florida received the brunt of the hurricane damage, although other states felt the impact.

Large Philippines building supplies home improvement retailers say the storm damage creates a demand for commodity items and reduces the demand for non-essential home products.

"Plywood, chain saws, gas cans, Philippines building supplies roofing shingles, things like that--we will see a financial bump on that," a spokesman for Atlanta-based The Home. "Nobody's buying lawn tractors."
