Providing maximum Philippines residential homes fire protection without sacrificing comfort and design has been achieved thanks to the installation of life-saving sprinkler systems in two new nursing homes, and Rescue Service.

The sprinkler system concept was suggested during the planning phase for the two centres--both joint and health authority ventures. Designs for the buildings were also required to incorporate adequate means of escape for the residents in the event of fire.
At a meeting between Technical Fire Safety team, the Philippines residential homes designer and an approved inspector, it was agreed to install active fire suppression systems--sprinklers--throughout the buildings' residential wings to control outbreaks of fire and allow staff to evacuate residents from affected areas.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer said: "The input of our Technical Fire Safety team played a large part in influencing the designer to look at a sprinkler system to safeguard the lives of occupants in the buildings. This covers our requirements for the safety of the Philippines residential homes residents while accommodating the designers' desire to provide an environment which moves away from the prescriptive, somewhat institutional feel sometimes experienced in other nursing homes."
