Insulating Concrete Forms (ICF)
Philippines

Your home will be incredibly quiet
"...I looked out the window and saw
the traffic on the road, but I couldn’t hear it..."
| |
A
construction company in Cebu is now introducing 'Insulated Concrete Forms'
(ICF) in the Philippines; this way of building houses is used all over the
world but not yet here... while it has so many advantages.
1) It is insulating like your 'cooling box'; saving you money on
aircon-bills PLUS you are saveguarded against the noise of the rampant
karaoke-terror.
2) Beauty inside/outside: it is cheaper to cover the walls inside-
and outside with beautiful paneling or veneers; thousands of
possibilities.
3) It is a load-bearing structure in its own right (other
contractors use hollow blocks which are NOT loadbearing).
-
Superior sound-dampening
qualities; use ICF for Houses, Commercial Buildings, School, Church
etc.
-
The project is
built faster; commercial buildings can start their business
quicker.
-
Insulated; Air-conditioning is seldom necessary
-
The ICF industry is growing by over 30% per year
-
Philippine
Insulating Concrete Forms cost a little more
than traditional construction; if you are looking for 'cheap' we can not help
you, please ask your local contractor to build with hollow-blocks.

What are Insulating Concrete Forms?
They are forms (blocks) made of EPS (expanded polystyrene; 'styrofoam' or
the same material that is used inside your cooling-box) that
Philippine construction crews stack like Lego blocks into the shape of the walls of a
house or commercial building. Workers then add reinforcing steel bars
and pour concrete. The foam blocks
stay in place after the concrete is dry and will be covered with whatever
you like; cement board, bricks, stone, wood, vinyl or aluminum siding,
stucco, drywall, plaster, render, cladding etc.

Acoustic Insulation
Your home will be incredibly quiet; "I looked out the window and saw the
traffic on the road, but I couldn’t hear it..."
The same sound Insulation between rooms (and no more noisy neighbors).
These superior sound-dampening qualities are also the reason to use ICF
for churches, commercial buildings like hotels, concert-hall etc.

Cost
and Savings
Philippine
Insulating concrete forms cost a little more than traditional
construction, but that additional investment is quickly recouped by the
tremendous savings in electricy bills for the airconditioner.
ICFs are made from the same material that is used inside your cooling-box;
Air-conditioning is seldom necessary (just a ceiling fan) or at least a
downsizing of cooling equipment is possible.
Interesting for 'Zero Energy Homes' in combination with Solar Panels.

Design
ICF-buildings can be created with virtually any design or architectural
feature and will accept any exterior finish like
cement board, bricks, stone, wood, vinyl or aluminum siding, stucco,
drywall, plaster, render, cladding etc.
Architectural Freedom; an architect’s dream!

Safety
and Strength
Resistance to natural disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes
and floods.
ICF can withstand winds of up to 250 mph offering enhanced protection for
your home.
Flying debris will not penetrate your wall because of the reinforced concrete inside.
Due to the ideal slow moisture loss rates inside the ICF the concrete
actually achieves much higher strength.

Fire
Rating
ICF walls have a sufficient fire rating.
The foams in ICFs are manufactured with flame-retardant additives.
The concrete between the foam-layers does not break down until it
is exposed to thousands of degrees Fahrenheit — that's more hot than a typical
house fire.

Easy
The blocks push together like Lego blocks and there is no concern about
handling the bricks given that they are leight-weight.

Green
Building practices: Sustainable Building
ICFs contain no HCFC, formaldehyde, asbestos, or fiberglass, and no
harmful CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) are used in their manufacture, nor is
there any degree of "off-gassing" which would affect indoor air quality.
Earth-Friendly, environmentally responsible.

Hotels
No more complaints from occupants about noisy neighbors.
Savings in electricy bills for the airconditioner plus a downsizing of
cooling equipment.
Schools
It only makes sense to wisely spend taxpayers money to construct
sustainable, energy-efficient school buildings in the Philippines.
Healthcare Facilities
No where does 'Insulating Concrete Form' construction in the Philippines make more sense than
in the Healthcare Industry. Special issues like 24/7 operation, energy use
intensity, infection control requirements, and noise and comfort control
make healthcare construction particularly challenging.
Municipal Buildings
If you're responsible for the construction of Government
facilities, we understand you're under enormous pressure to make every
Peso count. Your budget is limited and your actions are often dictated
by committee.
It isn't hard to make a case for ICF construction when it comes to
government and municipal buildings, but it does require re-educating
those who are satisfied with "the way it's always been done."
ICF construction saves tax Pesos! What little more you'll spend
extra in
construction costs up front, you'll get back many times over in the years
to come. That makes sense to people. You just have to educate them...

Termites, Mold and Mildew
The 'foam' of which the forms are made of provides no food value for termites or rodents however to avoid that
they will make it their house you have to take the same measurements
agains them as you would do at any other house.
But the termites can't affect the structural integrity of the building since
it is made of concrete.

Roofing
You can install any roof you want.
We are also introducing SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) to the
Philippines because it is said to be the perfect way to build a roof with
it in combination with ICF for the walls; you would be able to use the
space under the roof (which is impossible with a corrugated steel roof)
and you would never hear the rain falling.
